May Day

A brief historical note.

May Day
Weathered red wall.

Fun fact: Josip Broz Tito broke with Stalin in 1948. Stalin, in turn, planned to have Tito assassinated.

One of the twenty-two attempts that followed was to be carried out by the same person who killed Leon Trotsky, who was directed to spray Tito with pulmonary plague bacteria. Tito's alleged response to Stalin?

Stop sending people to kill me. [. . .] If you don’t stop sending killers, I’ll send one to Moscow, and I won’t have to send a second.

I don't know if that last part is true, but it's a good story. And timely.
